Having our production based in Italy it is only natural that we travel to this beautiful country at least a couple of times a year. The past week we visited Bologna as well as Florence for the Pitti Uomo fair. This was out seventh time at the fair, however, this visit was kind of special to us.
Pitti Uomo is a very weird place. Twice a year thousands of people of the menswear industry gather to watch what the exhibiting brands are offering in the collection to come. The fair has become quite a spectacle with street style photographers covering every square inch if the fair area.
Let’s not dwell on Pitti Uomo as a phenomenon – there are plenty of texts out there criticizing the fair’s raison d’etre. However, Pitti is above all a place for people to meet and meeting people is essentially what makes our clock tick at Atelier Saman Amel. We spent a lot of time with our friends Alessandro and Jake of The Armoury(lank). These are people we have learnt a great deal from over the past years. A part from meeting old friends we got to engage in new relationships. Scott Schuman and Noboru Kakuta are two of those people we have been watching from afar but proudly may call our friend.
This text has no specific purpose rather then that of preaching the good that come out of interacting with people from all over the world. What we have noticed is that we rarely end up discussing actual products meeting these people, even though this might seem like a reasonable thing to be discussing. These are the type of discussions that makes you grow as a person, and for us, in the end as a brand.
