A couple of months ago, Lidewij Edelkoort released her latest trend forecasting manifesto: ANTI_FASHION. Mrs. Edelkoort is, as some of you may be aware, a key person on the international art and design scene and her predictions are rarely all that misguiding.
The ANTI_FASHION manifesto makes a couple of solid points on why the fashion system as we know it today is obsolete. Edelkoort refers to the burning out of some of fashions brightest shining stars - Elbaz, Simons, Galliano, etc. She argues that the pace of the fashion system has gotten out of hand and that the creatives pushing fashion forward are increasingly being pressured into moving faster and faster.
Though this argument has some similarities to the one's we noted earlier this fall, we reckon Edelkoort points out something which is getting increasingly evident: the speed of the fashion system has gotten out of hand to the point where it is contra productive.
Hopefully we will be seeing a reconsideration of the concept of luxury. Tactility and the handmade product is on the rise. Also, we reckon that more people will take action against the speed of the fashion system. More and more people will be willing to slow down the process and become more involved in building their wardrobe. The alienation of the product will be questioned and people will become increasingly interested in what they are actually wearing in terms of production, handicraft and style.
This change of mindset is something Atelier Saman Amel aims to be a part of.
